Release Date: October 9th, 2015
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley
Director: Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future Trilogy, Forrest Gump, Flight, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?)
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Based on the true story of Philipe Petit’s walk across the Twin Towers in 1974, most would probably be yearning to watch the documentary discussing this act rather than a Hollywood style version of the same account. However, I definitely think some amazing camera tricks could create a whole new vision of excitement and fear for this retelling. Plus, when has Zemeckis ever failed?-LJF
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Man on Wire was one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen, so I have some high hopes for this dramatization of Philippe Petit’s death-defying wire walk between the World Trade Center towers. Robert Zemeckis is definitely a good fit as director with his ability to combine epic visuals with deeply personal character stories like Flight and Cast Away. – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5. You can clearly tell some stuff is going to be fabricated to elongate the story beyond what we know. Nevertheless, Levitt is always an entertaining watch, and you can’t deny the titular “walk” is going to amaze in 3D and IMAX. I’ve been game for this ever since I first heard about it, and the trailer helps support the fact even more so.-LJF
Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5. I like that they are sticking with the style of the documentary and are setting this up almost as if this were a movie about a bank heist. Zemeckis’ penchant for jaw-dropping shots with lots of help from CGI works perfectly in showing beautifully shot scenes of just how tall the towers were, and the moments the trailer shows of his walk on the wire look positively breathtaking. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s French accent takes some getting used to, but by the end of the trailer I was very excited to see his full-performance. – JTM
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. This is one of those movies that you have to see in a theater. The Twin Towers high wire effect won’t be the same on a small screen. I’m really excited for this, and may even pre-game with the documentary.-LJF
Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? Theater. This is one of those movies that will simply play better on larger screens with its massive scope and size. Although seeing in IMAX would be great, I’d be just as happy watching this in my local cineplex. Plus I’d like for this movie to make a decent amount of money at the box office, if only to convince Robert Zemeckis to keep making live-action movies and never go back to his dismal “motion-capture is the future of movies” phase. – JTM
