The X-Files Lives On!
Series Creator Chris Carter says, “Right now is the perfect time to bring back the show”
It’s been over a decade since we last saw FBI Agents Mulder and Scully on the small screen. Of course there was the 2008 feature release of X-Files: I Want to Believe, which failed to make box office numbers and wasn’t well received by long time fans. Over the next 7 years small rumblings came and went of a possible third movie, but were never materialized. The light was beginning to dim on the possibility to see Mulder and Scully back on the screen. Then, in an unexpected announcement earlier this year, the X-Files would return to its roots in a limited 6 episode run on Fox starting this January. “20th Century Fox called really wanted to get something off the ground”, said Carter, “And David really wanted to do it, and I said if he’s in then so am I!” He later joked.
The panel consisted of Carter, David Duchovny, and Mitch Pileggi. Most notably absent was Gillian Anderson who was off working. All three were very vocal about returning to a project that went on to become one of the best science fiction shows ever made. “Just the fact that Gillian, Chris, and Mitch were there was great. We all have a group memory when were together, its really more instinctive”, Duchovny said when he was asked about getting back to work with his old costars. Pileggi put it very simply, “It felt right”.
Besides the quick Q&A, eager fans were treated by getting an early look at the full first episode titled, “My Struggle”. It would be a crime to give you a spoiler review of the episode, but I will tell you that it was very well received from audience resulting in a standing ovation, and for good reason. I am very happy to say that the premiere does a great job getting us back into the world of these characters and doesn’t hold back. It comes back very strongly like a swift punch in the face. The structure of the season will revisit the two big themes that the show was built upon. Certain episodes will revolve around the alien mythology as well as stand alones that many consider to be the best of the series.
I as well as many others are anticipating the return of these iconic characters and a legendary show. This January, the truth returns!
