Pop Press: Tim Mahoney Releases ‘Voice’-inspired Single

from pop-break’s news desk …

Tim Mahoney, the Minnesotamusician who appeared on the first season of NBC’s The Voice, has released a new single inspired by his experience on the show and in particular his mentor on the show, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.

The bouncy pop single “Hey Adam Levine,” released in late September, is a “friendly throw down” to the judge.

For those who might not remember Mahoney, you’ll certainly remember his story. For weeks leading up to The Voice’s premiere, NBC used a moment with Mahoney and Levine in their promos for the show. During the audition rounds of the show, Levine heard Mahoney sing and was the first to turn his chair around to confront the singer. With a stunned look on his face, Levine blurted out that he thought Mahoney was “a chick.” That moment played for weeks on end leading up to the show’s premiere and is still one of the more talked-about moments on the show.

“I wanted to write a song that’s fun and talked about just a funny experience from The Voice,” Mahoney said in a press release. “I actually thought the comment was great when Adam called me a chick. It was a huge PR boost and people remembered me right away — I’ll take that any day.”

Is there any heat between Mahoney and his former coach?

“I think Adam Levine is great,” Mahoney said. “He was my first choice as a coach, even if he wasn’t the only one who turned his chair around.”
