logan j. fowler and bill bodkin get on the comedic campaign trail…
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. I don’t know, The Campaign looks like it could have some solid laughs in it but on the other hand it may be a disappointing tale of two men (Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis) who run against each other for a seat in Congress. If anyone can sell this movie well enough, it’s those two guys, but the trailer did not do a lot for me, although I did chuckle here and there. Maybe the trailer held back on the best stuff? Although that punching of a baby gag might rub people the wrong way. Despite all of cerebral negotiation, I would consider it most likely a rental at best. –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. The Campaign is going either one of two ways. The first, an absolute laugh riot. Look at the last few Will Ferrell movies, for every Talladega Nights or Semi-Pro there’s absolute gut busters like Step Brothers and The Other Guys. And with Zach Galifianakis, I’ve seen him do this effeminate Southern character before and he slays with it. However, on the negative side of things, this could be a real, real stinker. One-note tired jokes that we’ve heard a million times. Will Ferrell being loud and yelling dumb things, Zach being forced to deliver awkward, unfunny dialogue. You know like in Due Date. I think the the good and bad potential of this film really cancel each other out and will relegate The Campaign to DVD for me. –BB
