Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Remember what Michael Bay was doing before he destroyed your childhood with big budget clunky adaptations of your favorite toy based cartoons? Making movies shot through a slick filter that involved slow, pandering shots of gorgeous women a la Bad Boys. Looks like Bay is back to his old stomping grounds in Pain and Gain, in which Marky Mark and The Rock play two beefy boneheads who wanna live the American Dream by way of crime. The trailer didn’t make me laugh much but I’ll admit the pairing of Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson has me intrigued enough to give it a rental when it hits the video market. –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. When I first saw the trailer for Pain and Gain I literally had no idea what was going except for the fact that I thought it looked stupid. But after multiple versions of the trailer being put out there, it grew on me. I think this could be a goofy popcorn flick. Mark Wahlberg is always great when he’s not taking himself seriously, the same goes for The Rock. Now, while I’ve warmed up to Pain & Gan considerably, I’m still not 100% convinced that I want to plunk down money to go see this in the cineplex. So for now, this’ll be a solid rental. –BB
