Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. The first Kick-Ass was a dose of over the top, raunchy, violent, superhero fun. It turned the genre on its head and showed the consequences of putting on a costume and fighting crime. To say that I am underwhelmed by the buzz for Kick-Ass 2 is truthful; I’m not getting the same amount of anticipation that I did for the first one. That being said, the movie can still surprise me, not unlike the first one, so I’m hoping this is true. My love for the first one is the only reason I’m slapping down money for the follow-up. Let’s hope I don’t regret it. –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Kick-Ass was an enjoyable film but I just didn’t get the over-the-moon love everyone seemed to have for it. The sequel looks like it’s going to be much of the same — fun, exciting, violent but there’s something lacking. There’s nothing compelling me to the cineplex. I’m kind of over Chloe Grace Moretz as the super-precocious teen. Hit Girl was a novelty the first time around and here I think we’re going to see more of the same. And I guess that’s my point, the first film was a novelty due to its violent, over the top nature and foul mouthed youths. I think the novelty will be worn off the second time around –BB
