Theater, Rent, No thanks, Undecided? No thanks. I find I, Frankenstein to look like some sort of Underworld relative (which it is) and that’s not a good thing. While the concept may be intriguing, it doesn’t have the kind of quality I think that’ll make it stand out, even for a rental. While Aaron Eckhart may have proven his worth in other films, the casting choice here is just bizarre, and everything about it seems to run that bizarre line as well, which is not a good thing. Chalk this one up to the pass option. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No thanks, Undecided? Rental. This has the potential of going one of two ways. The first is disastrously bad — an over-convoluted plot, wooden acting, terrible effects and overall awfulness. The second — enjoyable B-movie schlock. I, Frankenstein has the benefit of a really strong leading man who has proven he can be in an action flick. To me, Aaron Eckhart can carry a bad movie and if he has some help from the plot and supporting cast (Bill Night is in this remember), this could a really fun, dumb, popcorn flick action/horror flick. Remember John Carpenter’s Vampires? Yeah, not a great movie, but still a hell of a fun movie. And for the wasteland of January, or the doldrums of summer (when this will hit DVD), that’s all your looking for. –BB
