Dunnellen, NJ — “When I originally thought of doing this, I just wanted to produce something that would help the local music community and give my friends and I a forum to be funny. I never thought it would have become this big.” – Roxy Freefall, Executive Producer
Recorded once a month, Awesome: The PodCast. Punch & Pie is a mash up of geekery and music from Central Jersey. The brainchild of Executive Producer and hostess, former radio DJ Roxy Freefall, Awesome: The PodCast was recorded in her living room before moving to Roxy & Dukes in Dunellen, NJ. “When I first sat down with my Co-producer, Tiny, our plan was to approach Roxy & Dukes sometime in 2014. But after a late night discussion with Jim Parks of Roxy & Dukes, we decided to join forces and add a live show component to it earlier than we planned and it was the best decision we made.”
Joined by Co-Producer, Anthony “Tiny” Kroposky and rotating panel members including, David Johns, Rev. James “The Voice” Hatton, Cassie O and others, the monthly show focuses on topics and issues that are relevant to the geek and music communities. The show features very candid and open discussions about topics ranging from the media relevancy of comic books to the politically charged first amendment rights to the completely offbeat creation of ‘android girls.’ The panelists may not be experts per say, but their opinions and commentaries provide an insight and humor like no other.
Awesome: The PodCast also provides a showcase to feature up and coming music artists and other characters from Central Jersey. Featured acts have included Jenny & the Felines, Bonk! Percussion Group, Matt DeBlass, Little Dipper, A Halo Called Fred, Those Mockingbirds, Zigman Bird, The Fletchers, Dr. Void & the Death Machines, The Turnbucklers and Honah Lee. “We want to feature good music grown here in NJ. There is so much talent brewing here that needs to be showcased. If we can expand these bands’ audiences even a little bit, we have done our job.”
On April 24, the show will tape the first episode of their second season which features a live performance from the O>Matics. “We had a great first season. While we continue to learn and grow, we learned so much from our first season and I am really excited to see what this next season will bring. We have some amazing local artists on tap; The O>Matics, Lower The Veil, The Antics are just a few that we have coming up. The music is so diverse and I’m so fortunate to be able to feature a wide variety of sounds. It’s just an exciting time and I can’t wait to see what this year will bring.” The Awesome: The Podcast Second Season premier taping will take place at Roxy & Dukes, the home of the show.
