On August 1 (tonight), New Brunswick, New Jersey’s own Modern Chemistry will be heading to Power Planet Live in Baltimore, Maryland to open up for Taking Back Sunday (The Menzingers are also on the bill).
While, Pop-Break tries to cover things in their wheelhouse of the greater New York, New Jersey and Philly area, this show is extremely important to us and if you can make the drive to B-More tonight, we highly recommend it.
To us, this show means a lot. Modern Chemistry is fronted by longtime Pop-Break writer Joe Zorzi and features longtime Pop-Break contributor Brendan Hourican. The band had their first show ever at a Pop-Break “Shipwrecked at the Shore Showcase” at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, NJ two summers ago.
But, most importantly, to see our friends head out on the road to open for a band they’ve modeled their music after and appreciated and loved as fans — that’s something special.
We try to remain as unbiased as possible when it comes to projects our writers work on, but I can unequivocally say, Modern Chemistry has something special about them. If this were the ’90s or even the waning days of the record industry, these dudes would’ve already had a record deal. Their heart-on-the-sleeve, high-energy and passionate sounds are the type of music missing and needed on modern radio today. The future is so bright for these guys, so if you get the chance, go support them.
