You’re probably thinking this is too low, right? If Gone Girl turned out to be the best movie of 2014, would that shock me? Absolutely not. I’m definitely looking forward to this, but I have some concerns. First of all, the trailers have not looked good, I’m sorry. The voiceover is terrible, and the tone feels underwhelming. David Fincher is a great director, but he’s very hit or miss. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Miss. The Social Network. Hit. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Miss. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike look solid, but aside from them, I have serious problems with this cast. Neil Patrick Harris is great. We all love him. Yadda, yadda, yadda. In this type of film though, I don’t see it. Tyler Perry also doesn’t make a whole lot of sense here. He’s not exactly the strongest actor. If he turns in a great performance, I’ll give Fincher all the credit in the world, but I’m holding my breath. I’m putting this in my top ten because of pure potential, but quite honestly, I have a really bad feeling about this one.
Oscar Alert! It’s in contention for everything, but most notably David Fincher, who’s always a bridesmaid, never a bride. I still can’t believe Tom Hooper beat him with The King’s Speech in 2010. I’m never getting over that one.
