Allison Lips (Staff Writer) Super Mario Land was one of the first Game Boy games I owned because it captured the hearts and minds of my kindergarten class. For some reason, a game that was released 2 years before we were born and 7 years before any of us bought it was a must have item for anyone that owned a Game Boy.
I remember spending hours a day trying to beat the game because it doesn’t allow you to save your place. For years, I thought I made it to the second to last level. The boss in Level 9 was holding me back from beating the game. Everyone I knew thought there were only 10 levels in the game. There are actually 12 levels, which make up 4 worlds. Beating that level would have only gotten me into the final world, not the final level. Yes, finding that out was devastating, even as an adult.
To this day, I can still make it to the end of level 9 with no problem, but can’t kill the boss.
