My cure for the Monday blues would probably be to stream a Denzel Washington movie on Netflix and have some ice cream. Luckily, for me and everyone who was at Irving Plaza this Monday night, the cure was waiting for us right inside. Hailing all the way from Ireland, singer song writer Imelda May and her band brought along with them a special blend of rockabilly, blues and jazz that surely cured whatever ailed me. I knew it was going to be great night when The Bellfuries took the stage and the fans encouraged me to get on the stand, so I could get a better shot of the band. The fans’ joy and enthusiasm multiplied when Imelda walked on stage in her animal print dress, high heels, signature slicked back hair with curled blonde strand in the front and her deep red lips opened to let out a rich, sultry voice. Her third album Tribal was released in the US on September 23. I’m sorry Denzel you’re going to have to wait, this wild woman can’t stop tapping her feet and singing Oh my God, it’s good to be alive! Oh my God, it’s good to be alive! What a great way to swing into the week.
