1. The Dark Knight (2008)

I feel like an idiot for talking about this film. Everything that needs to be said about The Dark Knight has been said. There’s nothing left to discuss. We’ve exhausted all conversations. To put it bluntly though, this is one of my favorite movies, and it’s a movie that changed my life. If it weren’t for The Dark Knight, I probably wouldn’t have wanted to get into film blogging and discussion. After I saw this film, I wanted to discuss it with everybody, and listen to other people talk about it. This is how I discovered film websites and podcasts. For better or worse, I think The Dark Knight created the movie culture we live in now of wanting movie news, and wanting to talk about movie news incessantly. Aside from that, it’s also the reason the Academy expanded to more films when nominating Best Picture. Every time I watch the interrogation scene between Batman and the Joker, I still can’t believe this didn’t get nominated for Best Picture. The Academy will always have to live with that shame. It’s the biggest blunder they’ve ever made.

As far as the film goes, we’ve all seen it. We all know why it’s great, and we’ll leave it at that.
