The Wedding Date (2005)
The Bride: Debra Messing
The Groom: Dermot Mulroney
The Bridal Party: Amy Adams, Jack Davenport, Holland Taylor
As a Southern born and raised female, I know a thing or two about weddings and I’ll be the first to admit that I am always drawn to a charming, wedding-themed romantic comedy. Aside from the classics such as Runaway Bride and My Best Friend’s Wedding, my personal favorite is a lesser-known, sleeper of a film called The Wedding Date. Released in 2005 and directed by Clare Kilner, The Wedding Date stars Debra Messing, Amy Adams, Dermot Mulroney and Jack Davenport.
This lighthearted rom com is based on the Elizabeth Young novel, Asking for Trouble and it tells the story of a young woman named, Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) who hires male escort, Nick Mercer(Dermot Mulroney), to pose as her boyfriend and date to her sister (Amy Adams)’s wedding. Kat, embarrassed by her nonexistent love life, hires Nick to both impress her family and make her former fiance (who also just happens to be the best man at the wedding!) jealous. Her plan backfires of course when she finds herself actually falling for the hired escort. The Wedding Date is filled with laughs and features a wonderful soundtrack. Mulroney and Messing are fabulous together and their chemistry is unmatched!  –Mallory Delchamp
