Little Mermaid – Jennifer Amato
If I could see any Disney movie come to life, it would definitely have to be The Little Mermaid.
When I was very young, I thought I was Ariel. I did not have the long red hair or the shell bra or the mermaid fins, but I was convinced I had her voice. I remember singing in the pool and in the shower, pretending that Ursula was going to steal my prized possession.
Whether or not I actually had a talent fit for a prince is debatable, but nonetheless, the movie has remained my favorite since my childhood.
I love the theme of dreaming for a life that seems unattainable. I appreciate struggling to achieve your goals. I admire the devotion of Ariel’s friends. I wait for the tender moment at the end when King Tritan finally accepts his daughter’s decision to live a life of her own.
I did see The Little Mermaid on Broadway a few years ago and did not like the revisions from the animated film, but if a screenwriter and director/producer could create a movie that reflects the authenticity and lovable nature of the original, I think it would be a great rebirth for a new generation of dreamers to enjoy.
