First Time I Saw It: I was a bit late to this film and saw it a year later with a friend of mine on DVD. Normally, I would shake my head at this fact but I feel that my terrible timing helped me appreciate The Incredible Hulk.

Importance in the Marvel Universe and Why I Love It: Most moviegoers continue to underplay this film’s importance in the Marvel Universe because everyone saw The Dark Knight instead when this film was released. It’s a shame really because it is more ambitious plot-wise than many of the entries in the Marvel Universe. The tragic romance subplot actually works for the most part even though it was a little too melodramatic at times and Edward Norton’s performance really drives this film to new heights unlike Eric Bana in Ang Lee’s version. Let’s not forget the fact that I have a soft spot for Tim Roth in any film. He’s a great actor and he is able to portray a menacing character very well to the point that the audience is terrified at the idea of giving this short guy an extreme amount of power through the same serum that Banner received. The Easter eggs may not be as cool as future Marvel films but enough of them are there to keep fans interested if they decide to really pay attention.

Best Moment: The best moment of the film for me is when Banner is surrounded by incoming tear gas and gives a moment of sadness before transforming into The Hulk. General Ross (William Hurt) comments that this moment will finally turn his daughter against The Hulk but the reality is that both the daughter and the audience cheer for him by the end of the film. It’s a great use of dramatic irony in my opinion. Seriously ladies and gentlemen, it’s not perfect but give this film another shot. –Scott Clifford
