Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, the Presidents of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions have announced today the lead actors cast in Donald Glover’s original comedy pilot, Atlanta. Glover, who created and wrote the pilot, will be joined by Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Lee Stanfield and Zazie Beetz.
Atlanta is about two cousins, Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks (Glover) and Alfred Miles (Henry) who are making their way through the Atlanta rap scene. Glover is best known as Troy from the Yahoo! (formerly NBC) show, Community. He has also been a writer on the NBC show, 30 Rock which earned him three WGA Awards for Best Comedy Series. He has comedy down in front of and behind the camera, but will also bring musical knowledge and experience. Glover is well-known in music circles as Childish Gambino.
Production on Atlanta will begin at the end of July in the Georgia city. Hiro Murai is set to direct the pilot which is being produced by FX Productions. Paul Simms (Girls, Flight of the Conchords, NewsRadio) and Dianne McGunigle of MGMT Entertainment will join Glover as Executive Producers of the show.
