Last week it had been reported that 20th Century Fox’s X-Men spinoff, Gambit, was in danger of falling apart. But as reported earlier today by The Hollywood Reporter, Channing Tatum closed his deal with Fox- alleviating the fears of last week.
Tatum had been connected to the film for a few years as both actor and producer, even making an appearance at Fox’s X-Men Comic-Con panel in July. The source of the conflict came from backend compensation as well as the longtime involvement of Gambit in the X-Men universe which is not unusual back-and-forth during contract negotiations.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Rupert Wyatt is set to direct the Josh Zetumer screenplay. Along with Tatum, Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg have signed on to produce Gambit.
