6. Will abducts Freddie Lounds
This is one of my favorite moments from the show. It’s also a unique entry on this list. Pretty much every other item on this list is some extreme display of blood and gore. This, on the other hand, while violent, is more terrifying because of the tension and unpredictability of the scene. In said scene, tabloid writer Freddie Lounds (Lara Jean Chorostecki) goes to Will’s house to do some unauthorized investigative journalism. She finds her way into Will’s shed and sees that Will has mutilated a corpse (that of Randall Tier). Suddenly, Will appears and tells her to stay calm. Freddie does not listen and she attacks him with her gun and pepper spray. Will evades and chases Freddie to her car. Freddie almost manages to escape but Will pulls her out of the vehicle.
What’s great about this scene is that tension I talked about, though of course the scene explodes into a struggle for survival. And just when you think it’s over, Will smashes one of the car windows. As that happens, we get a superb shot of the glass falling onto the seat, where Freddie’s phone is calling Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne). She was so close! I have to give props to composer Brian Reitzell once again. His haunting harpsichord music makes the scene, in my opinion.
