4. Will mentally reenacts the Leed family’s murders
One of the more creative things about this adaptation of Hannibal was how it depicted crime scenes. Will would go into a trance of sorts and essentially relive that murder from the killer’s point of view. It’s always been a little troubling seeing Will do the deeds himself. This rings the truest in Will’s reenactment of one of the Red Dragon’s murders, in which we see him kill not just two parents, but their children as well. Child murder is a big taboo in television, but lo and behold, the team behind Hannibal got into the show. And let me tell you, as unsettling as some of the other murders are, a realistic home invasion is undeniably scary.
It was also a big step for the show as a whole, as it was adapted mostly from Thomas Harris’ first novel in the Hannibal Lecter series, Red Dragon. The cinematographer certainly thought this scene out; it’s as magnificent as it is chilling.
