3. Mason Verger feeds his face to Will’s dogs
It’s my understanding that Mason Verger is somewhat of a controversial character. I’m not sure why, but it might be because he’s the one character that might be just as vicious and cruel as Hannibal Lecter. I’ll admit that I found him quite strange when he first made his appearance in the second season. But as time went on, I really started to enjoy Michael Pitt’s performance (Joe Anderson replaced him later, but Pitt is my favorite). Still it seems only just, in a bizarre way, that Hannibal drugs up Mason and suggests to him that he cut off his face and feed it to Will’s dogs. Afterwards Hannibal tells Mason to eat his nose, which, of course, he does.
At the time, this was the most grotesque thing to come out of the show. Not only is Mason’s lack of a face revolting, the fact that Will’s dogs eat that face is quite unnerving. It may not be cannibalism, but to think that a dog would really eat someone’s flesh just like that. That is some nightmare-inducing stuff right there.
