The first trailer and poster for Netflix’s newest foray into original programming, Adam Sandler’s The Ridiculous 6, have found their way online. Not to be confused with this winter’s other western with a number in the title (Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight), The Ridiculous 6 is the first of four films that Sandler will produce and star in for the streaming company.
Following a group of six half-brothers navigating the Wild West in an attempt to save their father, The Ridiculous 6 looks to spoof various classic westerns, namely The Magnificent Seven. While Sandler may be moving from the big screen to streaming devices, the first trailer shows that not much is being lost in the transition. Happy Madison regulars like Rob Schneider, Steve Buscemi and Nick Swardson co-star, along with Taylor Lautner, Danny Trejo, Whitney Cummings and Vanilla Ice. The trailer also promises a lot of lowbrow humor, so fans of Sandler should be pleased.
The film was the subject of controversy last spring when numerous Native American actors walked off the set in protest of the allegedly racist humor in the script. While Sandler claimed the film is meant to be seen as a satire, a la Blazing Saddles, only time will tell how offensive the film truly is.
The Ridiculous Six, directed by Sandler’s frequent collaborator Frank Coraci (Click, The Waterboy) premieres on December 11 on Netflix.
