2) Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)
It’s the one that started it all. The theatrical version technically doesn’t have Episode IV- A New Hope in the crawl, but we’ll cheat a little. I can’t even imagine seeing this movie in the theater when it first came out. Certainly I had the same feeling that most people did when I watched it as a kid, but to be alive in the theater to see this unfold must have been magic.
I really don’t have much to say about this one other than it’s a perfect movie. Obi-Wan explaining the force. The cantina. Han Solo. Darth Vader. What else could anyone possibly add to arguably the most important film ever made. It’s the movie that all franchises strive to be, and this film was patient zero. While it’s not my favorite Star Wars film, it’s easily the most iconic.
Best Scene: The entire Death Star trench run is incredible, and includes my favorite piece of John Williams music ever.
