‘X-Cops’
(Season 7, Episode 12)
During a taping of the popular television program Cops, officers come across agents Mulder and Scully while they are on the case of what they believe to be a werewolf.
Why it’s worth watching: Okay, I know it doesn’t sound like much, but I promise you it’s worth watching. I would even go on the record and say that this might be my favorite episode from the series. Definitely top three. Written by Vince Gilligan, this story takes an inventive crossover of two series that were both cultural phenonmenons by this point in the year 2000. The episode, which takes place in real time, takes the idea of a villain that embodies what you fear most. Although the “monster” is not shown on the camera, the episode does a wonderful job of being a sci-fi mockumentary and genuinely startling at the same time. Definitely an excellent episode where the show was still at the top of its game.
