Pre-Trailer Thoughts: The original Zoolander (2001) is a guilty pleasure flick of mine. It’s just so dumb, it’s hilarious. Can Ben Stiller keep the jokes good enough to keep us entertained by the same empty headed male model 15 years later? –LJF
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I’m a fan of the first Zoolander, and now it seems Ben Stiller is going to try and ride the wave of nostalgia that is dominating the box office these days. To me Zoolander always was a movie perfectly contained within itself, something that expertly captured the zeitgeist of the early 2000s. It did an amazing job of displaying the shallowness and hubris of the time period. The first film had a lot of influence on the decade and a half of comedy that followed, and I have to wonder if the character of Derek Zoolander will be able to still be relevant in 2016. – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 3 out 5. It’s not over the top hilarious, but there’s enough here to make me interested. Owen Wilson’s “She’s hot. I trust her” line gets me every time, and the cast looks like it is having a lot of fun in this. It’s just probably going to be a silly time at the cinema, and I’m 100% okay with that. –LJF
Rate the Trailer: 2 out of 5. This trailer makes me want to go back and check to make sure I liked Zoolander as much as I thought I did. Surely Ben Stiller was funny at one point, right? It relies far, far, far too much on “hey, remember what we’re referencing here?” in place of actual jokes. Most of the jokes that aren’t based on remembering the first Zoolander are either eye-rollingly generic or in bad taste (the “hot dog or a bun?” joke seems specifically archaic). This movie needed to adapt to survive in the world of comedy today, but instead it never seemed to get out of the gutter of “let’s recycle jokes that people liked 15 years ago”. – JTM
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater (if I can). Yes, I know it’s crazy, but I saw the first one in theaters, so I figured I might as well keep faithful to this series once again and check it out on the big screen. –LJF
Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? No Thanks. Sorry, but unless the final reviews are able to sway me I’m absolutely saving my money to see Deadpool instead this weekend. – JTM
