6. Loki (Nick Porcaro)
Is there anyone who doesn’t enjoy Tom Hiddleston’s revelatory turn as the Norse trickster? His devious antics helped elevate both Thor films from forgettable popcorn fare into box office successes, and the juggernaut blockbuster that was The Avengers wouldn’t be nearly as memorable without his presence. Hiddleston’s performances are charming enough to lure you into liking the two-faced deity, before he inevitably quashes any good will with another villainous act. Nothing is as it seems with Loki, especially after the thrilling cliffhanger ending of Thor: The Dark World, where it’s revealed Loki somehow averted death and is currently impersonating Odin.
Best Line: And when he’s not being a tricky bastard he’s incredibly funny, always one-upping Thor with a sly jab here and a deadpan comment there. The one-liners aren’t limited to brotherly love, either. An especially memorable line from The Avengers found Loki battered and bruised, on the receiving end of an Avengers stare down, finally accepting Tony Stark’s earlier offer of an alcoholic beverage: “If it’s all the same to you…I’ll have that drink now.”
Favorite Moment: But my single favorite Loki moment also involves my favorite MCU character, Captain America. In Thor: The Dark World, Loki morphs into the Captain in response to his brother’s displeasure at standing next to him, ranting and raving with fervent patriotism before being forcibly shut up. All in all, there are few characters who embody the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s winning blend of humor, action, and drama like Loki.
