Review: Revolutionaries #8

This is it! This big reveals! It all comes down to this!

Except everything this issue was supposed to reveal was already spoiled during the initial salvo of First Strike.

Thus welcomes IDW into the conundrum and obstacles which the other mainstream companies DC and Marvel have dealt with during their own crisis events. This is what happens when you have one main title, try to tie-in issues from other series, and then introduce one-shots. Too much to handle on schedule, and all it takes is one delay to throw off a release plan.

This extra-dollar sized issue has a ton in it. Despite the spoiled conclusion, the final issue of the series has the best dramatic build and a satisfying conclusion which still comes off fluidly, even though readers likely already figured the outcome. I also enjoyed the bonus at the end, a panel-by-panel breakdown of the links through other issues and series which tied events together, going as far back as All Hail Megatron. Nicely done IDW.

Blackrock meets his maker, and an interesting connection is made with the “Titan Master” gimmick, which hasn’t been seen since the short-lived Titans Return arc. Big Ol’ Optimus makes his cameo, and is put to good use instead of a throwaway scene.

Remember the Mass Device? It’s here. Bigtime.

I’m sure Revolutionaries will get another round, perhaps unified with another title or a new series. Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of the team.
