What awaits for readers in the Harley Quinn Be Careful What you wish for special?
Well I’m sure you can assume being it’s a Harley Quinn title. I’m sure you can also make some guesses what the story is about going by Amanda Conner’s lovely cover art. Harley is embracing what appears to be an ornamental bottle. It looks very important and like something that if you rubbed the right way something special may come out. Okay, get your mind out of the gutter. Let’s dive into the special.
The issue starts off with Harley and the whole crew playing in the ocean at Coney Island.
Things look like fun until Harley feels a pinch on her rear. It’s not anyone being fresh with her. It’s also not any sea critters saying hello. Its trash in the form of a hypodermic needle stuck right in her ass. With some assistance Eggy removes it for her.
Harley is very upset about all the trash floating around in the ocean, and she wants it gone. After some talking with her friends Eggy comes up with a brilliant plan. He asks Harley why she doesn’t find out who is doing the dumping and then report them to the authorities. Harley takes off in an inflatable motor boat and confronts a huge vessel with a bullhorn. The captain is a prick so Harley handles it the way she always does.
Harley blows up the ship with bazooka gun, and while she’s in the ocean and ruins of the ship she notices something. It’s that beautiful bottle that’s on the cover. Just as Harley grabs it and thinks about how crappy it will be to die on an empty stomach she’s magically on the boardwalk. That’s where you can expect your first of many cameos. Power Girl has once again saved Harley from death.
Harley begins to inspect the bottle. She opens it and the smell of “ancient farts” seeps out. That’s not the only thing that seeps out. A mist appears and a genie in front of Harley calling her his mistress. The Genie’s name is Jimm Salabim. He tells Harley for freeing him that she has the power to command him and have all her wishes granted. She isn’t limited to just 3 wishes, they’re limitless. So what will Harley wish for?
From here you can expect Harley’s wildest dreams to come true. Well, kind of. It takes her a few tries to really figure out what she wants. And, without giving too much away remember the title of this special. Be Careful what you wish for is chock full of cameo’s from tons of your favorite DC villains and heroes.
All of Harley’s wishes link up to one another in a creative and funny way that makes for good story-telling. If you need a good laugh or if you just love Harley Quinn this special is a lot of fun. It’s something you can read with zero knowledge of any other comic series. You just need to know who Harley Quinn is.
