Review: IDW’s Transformers vs. Visionaries #4 (of 5)

Transformers vs. Visionaries #4

Only one more to go. Following the hype for Unicron, we are now presented the tag-line of “The Road to Unicron is paved with Energon” and it is highlighted in the pages of Transformers vs. Visionaries.

IDW has made it public following the events of Unicron, the Transformers universe will get a reboot. It could mean the end of everything, or the beginning of something new. In the pages of Visionaries, it seems the humanoid factions of Lords of the Light and the Darklings are set on war, with the possibility of turning Cybertron into their own world.

The characters in Visionaries are not the ones we remember, and in this issue there are many turns in characters and allegiances change pretty quick, thanks to some manipulation from a character hiding in plain sight since Revolution. I’m referring to Garrison Krieger, who is now Merklyn.

It is my guess he might be a herald for Unicron. This is running parallel to the Optimus Prime series, where doom is nearing and it seems it will all come crashing together soon.

In this issue, I am saddened by the introduction of a character who immediately meets his demise. Not cool. It succeeds in playing up the severity of the situation, and the artwork does a tremendous job of portraying emotion in the faces of both Transformers and Visionaries.

Seems like a shame we only have one issue left to finalize the tale of the Visionaries, I feel as though their story may continue but will remain on the outskirts of the IDW/Hasbroverse.
