WELCOME TO MOVIE THUNDERDOME
Yes. This is a new series for the Breakcast. The concept is simple: we take a divisive movie of yesteryear and pit two people against each other. One is pro.The other con. They settle it in MOVIE THUNDERDOME!
With Avengers: Infinity War mere hours away, we decided to debut the Movie Thunderdome with what is considered the most divisive MCU movie there is:
IRON MAN 3
Iron Man 3 was the first MCU film post Avengers, so pressure was high. After the disappointment of Iron Man 2, many were clamoring for another great solo film centered around the guy who started this whole MCU shebang – Tony Stark.
Out was Jon Favreau. In came director Shane Black of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang fame. When Iron Man 3 came out, many got the Iron Man movie they always wanted, but others were angry as Hulk at the shocking twists this movie had.
It will be Al Mannarino taking the Pro side with (surprise, surprise) Daniel Cohen taking the anti-MCU stance. The two are mostly civil, but discuss all elements associated with this film, including:
–Expectations going in
–THAT Twist. Why it works for Al & Why Dan hates it.
–The performances
–Both argue how effective (or not effective) Tony Stark’s character arc was
–Dan discusses how Iron Man 3 was the birth of his MCU disdain
–Al bows to the altar of Shane Black
–Both kind of agree Iron Man 2 wasn’t that bad
–Al takes Dan on a multitude of MCU tangents
–Dan feels ill when Al puts him in the position of defending an MCU movie he hates
–Both argue the ending’s impact
If you love a great movie argument, this is the podcast for you.
Sit back. Kick your feet up. And listen to the Thunderdome play out!
