‘Give Yourself A Try’ is an Upbeat, But Personal New Single from The 1975

Over the years, June 1st has basically become a holiday for The 1975 fans all around the world due to the band always surprising them with some sort of news, whether it be good or bad. Being that the band’s name was created because lead singer Matty Healy discovered scribblings on the back of a poetry book reading, “1 June, The 1975” it is only fitting that the band’s big announcements occur on that same day–this year is no different.

On June 1, The 1975 released a new single titled, “Give Yourself A Try” off of their upcoming third studio album. The album was announced in the past titled, Music For Cars, but has now been changed to, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships.

During the first listen, I wasn’t quite sure what to think, but I was instantly drawn into the music. It was almost hypnotizing. The loud and repetitive guitar riffs in the track take a bit of time to get used to, but after a few listens it will grow on you and will be stuck in your mind all day long. It’s almost addicting!

I just love how in this song, the band is able to create pure art with just a few chords and incredible lyrics. The upbeat and happy sound mixes so well with the personal lyrics about letting go of the things you have been through in your life and moving forward and being happy.

I’m still a big fan of the band’s debut album which was released in 2013, and I doubt anything will be able to top that album in my mind. However, after a few more listens, I began to feel like this track sounds a bit more like “the old The 1975,” specifically their songs “Sex” and “Milk” and it created a bit of nostalgia in my mind.

The way in which The 1975 have been able to change their sound so much over the years, yet still continue to have “The 1975 feel” just blows my mind.

The single represents a new era of The 1975 and from the positive reactions of fans, it is evident that this is going to be a big year for the band. It gets even more exciting, as Healy announced during a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 that the band is not only releasing one album, but two!

During the interview with BBC Radio 1, Healy said:

“Well, I’ve always said that I wanted to do three albums. So, I kind of set out to do that and then when I started making this record, the primary drive of why I make music, which is because it’s kind of the only thing that really makes me happy kicked in at such a rate that I thought, well I’m not gonna stop doing The 1975 now. I’m not gonna do three albums, I’m gonna do loads of albums. Not so many that we spoil it, but I’m not stopping making records now because I just couldn’t bear the idea of it. So, I thought ‘right, well “Music for Cars” is gonna be an era then.’ It’s gonna be a time when we put out a collection of music. So, it starts with two albums.”

Clearly, The 1975 fans are definitely in for quite a treat. Along with this new single, fans should get excited for the new album titled A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, which will be out in October, a new tour in January 2019, and another album in May!
