Review: Transformers – Requiem of the Wreckers One-Shot

Consider this the swan song for the Wreckers. The last series had some loose ends, and while we did not get complete explanations for everything, the story with Impactor, Springer, Verity, and even Kup, all comes to an end.

The return of two antagonists, in a “how can this get any worse situation” seemed a bit clichéd, but somehow Josh Burcham and company made it work. Sins of the Wreckers saw secrets revealed, loyalties broken, and a complete, all-out decimation with various factions suffering fatal ends.

Some nods to G1 UK stables created by Simon Furman, but the real fan service comes from the rampant death and destruction which follows. Some villains never seem to lose a step. The preview highlighting a human-run group of anti-Cybertronian propaganda was enticing, however I was disappointed at how quickly this plot unraveled. They could have done so much more, but would have likely required more than a one-shot tale.

As two old allies and one human female find their place and ultimately their fates, I couldn’t help but wonder how much better the story would have been if it were spread out through another six-issue miniseries. The story was good, but it good have been better if it wasn’t crammed into a single issue.

I’m sure when the Ultimate Wrecker Wrecking Wrecked Trade edition comes out which will include Everything Wrecker and bonuses, we will get more explanations and behind-the-script details.

Until next time, for the Wreckers… It is over… FINISHED!

Requiem of the Wreckers nets a 7 out-of 10
