IDW Review: Transformers Optimus Prime #21

The end continues. John Barber unleashed more tragedy last issue, and this issue the Cybertronians fare no better.

The focus remains on a select few, typical for this title to squarely focus on the main leaders of the series, however it is what happens to some of the secondary characters is more intriguing.

Barber has a knack for putting the main cast, Optimus Prime, Magna Pyra, Starscream, Shockwave, and Arcee front and center. While their story is what will ultimately lead us towards Unicron.

Keeping in mind Unicron #1 already came out, there is a great deal we haven’t covered yet.

The matter of the Beast-type Transformers remains a mystery, however a reveal towards the end of the issue does begin it’s link to the final mini-series. Additionally, it would seem we have a number of artists working on the final issues in order to meet deadline. Following the delays during Revolution and First Strike, it seems IDW is bringing out all the big guns, artists that is, to get the series finished.

This week is Lost Light #21 and Unicron Issue #2 – IDW should hurry up to be sure Unicron #2 doesn’t spoil anything else.

Optimus Prime #21 gets a 7 out of 10

Optimus Prime #21 is now available at comic book retailers everywhere.
