We start off with Chris welcoming us live from LA for the 3-hour finale. Buckle in boys and girls, this is going to be a doozy. He claims this might be the most emotional finale we’ve ever seen, but after seeing what happened to Becca last season finale, I highly doubt his statement.
This week Becca, Blake, and Garrett are in the Maldives. Becca openly admits to being in love with both Blake and Garrett. She hasn’t told either of them about her feelings because she wants it to be special when she says it to one of them at the end.
Becca reconnects with her family and talks to them about both of the men. The best expression was from the grandfather when Becca admits to being in love with both men.
Garrett meets Becca’s parents
Garrett has concerns about meeting Becca’s parents since he is aware that Arie was the last guy to meet her family. He tells her family about his first date with Becca and their journey together since then. He mentions how well Becca blended in when she met his family. Becca gets alone time with her mother and asks her how she thinks her father would feel about Garrett. Her mom said that he would be happy to see a man so in love with his daughter.
Garrett opens up to Becca’s sister, Emily. He sheds a tear talking to her and really opened up to her.
Becca talks with Emily and she sings Garrett’s praises “Girl, I don’t know how you’re going to make a decision because he’s fabulous” was a line that Emily said to her.
I feel like there’s a bias where the first person the family meets usually has a clean-slate advantage and can get on the family’s good side first. By the time the family meets the second person, they are comparing that person to the first person.
Blake Meets Becca’s Parents
Becca asks the family to treat their interaction with Blake the same way they treated their interaction with Garrett. Blake started by talking about his dates with Becca throughout the season. Blake had a one-on-one interaction with Emily. During that conversation he mentions gravitating towards strong women throughout his life, which is why he finds himself drawn to Becca.
After she was done talking with Blake, Becca speaks with Emily. It seems apparent to me that the sister liked Garrett more in general, but she described Garrett as a good father figure, but Blake as a good teammate. Becca starts crying because she’s having a hard time selecting between the two men.
Becca’s mom leaves Blake feeling a bit paranoid by asking if he would be ok not getting selected. Becca’s uncle asks if there’s anything he should know about Garrett and Blake seems to start breaking down about not wanting to talk about Garrett anymore. He mentions that something feels wrong and that it was a similar feeling to how he felt before his ex-girlfriend dumped him.
Last Date with Garrett
The two are on a boat, drinking champagne and making out. Garrett asks Becca how her family felt about him. She mentioned how the family handled the scenario and didn’t say anything negative about him. He starts to talk to her about his conversation with Emily, but he gets cut off when they see dolphins right outside the boat. I’m not sure if it was just the editing, or if they actually didn’t re-address the question, but it never comes back up. One of the dolphins jumps and spirals in the air and Becca says, “It reminds me of a spiral mac and cheese noodle!” which is definitely my favorite thing she’s said this season.
During their last conversation before the final rose ceremony, Garrett starts being very transparent about how he can picture his whole life with her. Becca asks if there’s anything else he would want to tell her before this decision is made, and he said no because he’s been completely transparent. Garrett mentions that even if he’s not chosen he just wants her to be happy. Garret starts talking about how much he loves everything about Becca. “I love her so much that I would let her tear my heart out just so she could be happy”
Last date with Blake
They go on a bike ride together to the shore and then take a paddle boat into the ocean. After swimming for a bit, they sit on the side of the ocean to talk about how Becca’s family felt about him. Becca mentions that Emily only had nice things to say about him. Their discussion ranges from how Blake feels about her and how well they complement each other. Becca mentions that Blake feels steady and solid and she’d never had that in a previous relationship.
Becca meets up with Blake and he gives her a gift. He made her a time capsule that has pictures of their journey together. It has photos of their dates, quotes of things he’s said to her and things she’s said to him, and the song he wrote to her in Vegas inside of it. He spent time talking about their future together and he tells her that he loves her so much.
The Final Rose Ceremony
Both men meet with Neil Lane (separately) and they pick their own rings that they will use to propose to Becca. It’s a personal preference, but I like the ring that Garrett chose a bit more than the ring that Blake chose.
The white dress that Becca is wearing is stunning. It’s a white plunging halter-neck maxi dress with beautiful reflective sequins on it. There are multiple shots of her walking along the white sand and cerulean blue water of the Maldives. The scenery is something right out of a model photo shoot.
In-between commercials, right before the proposal, Chris Harris says something to the extent of “I’ve been doing this show for a long time and I’ve never seen anything like this” to which my boyfriend and I simultaneously said “Bullshit”. Because after what happened between Arie and Becca during the last season of the Bachelor, what else is there left to see?
I was sad to see Blake approach Becca first. Typically, the first person to approach the Bachelor/Bachelorette is sent home. Meanwhile, Blake is smiling ear to ear. He says some beautiful words to her and you can see it on her face that she’s having a hard time keeping her composure. Becca cuts him off and says “Wait, give me a moment.” She starts mentioning all of the reasons she has feelings for him and mentions how she’s been the most solid with him but there’s a better fit for him somewhere else. Blake is sweating bullets and says he didn’t expect this. He tells her that he thinks she’s making a mistake and no one will be able to make her as happy as he could.
I feel so bad for Blake, who is having a hard time keeping it together. She tells him that she doesn’t want him to doubt himself and that he wasn’t wrong in anything he did. She tells him that she saw him making it the whole way, but that something changed along the way.
My heart breaks for Blake. After he walks away he starts sobbing. Becca also starts crying because she really thought it would be him for so wrong and she doesn’t want him to think he did anything wrong. He sobs thinking about how happy she’s going to be when Garrett proposes to her.
They show Blake in the studio sitting with Chris. The audience is dead silent. He mentions that he was confused and frustrated by the whole scenario. Chris asks Blake if he’s still in love with Becca and he responds that he’ll always have love for her. There is a lot of conversation between Blake and Chris about how he felt during the scenario, what he was thinking, what are his feelings towards seeing Becca. I can’t imagine being in Blake’s shoes during this portion of the night where they’re going to show Garrett propose to Becca and her reaction.
Becca comes out to the stage and greets Blake with a hug. Blake mentions to Becca that he got the answer he was looking for while watching every episode of this season, but still asks her what the moment was when she realized that she wasn’t going to pick him. Becca said there was no specific moment, but she did mention that when he got into his own head, it made her think about how there might be problems in how he would handle any issues that come up in their future. She didn’t want him to question his worth and she apologized for how everything happened. Chris asks what Blake what will help him move on. He says he’ll learn and grow from this and he’ll find happiness.
They cut back to the episode. Garrett walks up to Becca and tells her how beautiful she looks. He talks about how much he loves her and how he can picture a beautiful life with her. Becca cuts him off and tells him that since day one she felt something so strong with him. She tells him that she loves him and she accepts his proposal before he even gets the chance to propose. Afterwards, he gets down on one knee and officially proposes. She pins the final rose to his lapel and they are honestly very cute celebrating together.
Back at the studio, Becca and Garret take the stage. They are both smiling so wide, and they both seem so genuinely happy. Becca said she’s ready to start life with him. They show video of how Becca and Garrett were living their lives between the time of the proposal and the time of the reveal tonight, since it has to remain hidden. The video was a lot of shots of them being cute and lovey-dovey but also there were shots of them rolling around in bed together, so I guess they were having a great time.
Garrett had some social media posts that came across as controversial. I was under the impression that Garrett, and ABC in general, would sweep those issues under the rug and not draw attention to them. Instead, Garrett used some of the last 15 minutes of the episode to apologize for offending anyone who he did. And he thanked Becca for helping improve him as a person. Becca said that this issue brought them together and made them stronger because it was a hurdle that they were able to get over.
So, what’s next for Becca and Garrett? Becca said she’s excited to live a normal life. They’re planning on moving in together, even though they’re not sure where yet. They don’t have wedding plans yet. As a gift to the two of them, Chris Harrison tells them that they are getting an all expensed paid trip back to Thailand. He also got them another gift, but they had to leave the studio in order to receive it. They got a minivan that had a baby seat inside, since Garrett drove into Becca’s life, and started his adventure with her in a minivan, now they can start the next part of their adventure together in a minivan.
Overall, I really enjoyed this season of the Bachelorette. I felt that Becca stayed true to character and all of the contestants were fun and interesting to watch. There were a lot of entertaining dates and challenges, and the drama between the men was absolutely delicious.
Thank you so much for reading the first ever Pop Break coverage of the Bachelorette. I look forward to writing about the next season of the Bachelor. 🌹
