IDW Comic Review: Transformers Unicron #3

If the death toll from last issue didn’t give you chills, this issue might have. From the way the last issue ended, Unicron has wasted no time in unveiling his own robot form, and IDW’s vision is a doozy.

Additionally, fans of the original G1 will appreciate some alterations to a Decepticon fleet. Now that the Optimus Prime series has caught up, we’ve got a clearer picture of how events unfolded.

As evidenced in Optimus Prime #22, the various arcs are converging, bringing as many Transformers to Cybertron for the big fight.

It’s been a long road, and a few of IDW’s fan-made characters have been shown to us to be more than simple roster additions, but potential to carry on into other series. The characters have been taken into depths never before explore in prior fiction.

My only gripe, which really isn’t about the issue itself, but more of the series. Hasbro made it a point to work with IDW to create this expanded universe with Visionaries and MASK, however resurrecting those properties did not seem to work. While we previously learned ROM and the Micronauts are of Cybertronian origin, but their tale has been rushed and brushed aside. This is why I wonder if IDW is going to retcon or simply write everyone ele out.

Unicron #3 gets 8 out of 10

Unicron #3 is now available at comic book retailers nationwide.
