I really don’t want to give away any spoilers.
I really don’t.
But be warned
THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.Â
IDW said they were going to do something big during this final story arc.
So far, there has been a lot of death and destruction. Planets, colonies, all destroyed in the wake of Unicron’s path. This issue continues to see the ultimate grand plan of Shockwave unfold. This series has brought together everything it began with Revolution, although the other characters, such as ROM, Micronauts, and the Visionaries have taken a bit of a backseat, we do get some glimpse of inclusion. It seems G.I. Joe is allowed to share more than the others. In fact a major death from Optimus Prime #23 is linked to another tragic end in this issue.
A rag tag group of characters returns to give some sort of support to Optimus Prime and the remaining Transformers, Solstar Knights, Visionaries, humans, and whomever else is left. It’s the inclusion of a character who is an amalgamation of various alien species. You would have to go back to ROM vs. Transformers: Shining Armor. Yep. It’s HER.
Things go from bad to horribly worse.
I WARNED YOU… HERE COME THE SPOILERS!
It gets a bit confusing as the Decepticon Big Bad tried to destroy the Big Big Bad, but fails. As a result of a recurring object being used to save lives, Unicron finally does it.
He destroys Cybertron. Unicron rips Cybertron in two. Devours the energy of the planet.
A large contingent of Transformers and other beings survive, but throughout the issue, the casualty count is very high. I admit, I felt as through I was watched a slaughter from afar. Powerless and tragic.
Many favorites died. As the saying goes: “All good things…”
Unicron #4 nets a 10 out of 10.
I’m going to get really upset when this is all over.
