House of Independents Celebrates Third Anniversary with Free Locals Show

House of Independents celebrates its third anniversary on Friday November 23.

The event is open to the public and features an all-star line-up of local acts — gods, The Von Mons, Miles Nxbxdy, and Little Vicious. The free event is sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin, Absolut Vodka, Milagro Tequila, and the Asbury Park Brewery.

Opened in 2015, House of Independents (HOI) for short has been a fascinating, and vital, addition to the Asbury Park scene. It’s housed (pun intended) everything from concerts to burlesque to comedy to pro wrestling, live podcasts, and theatrical productions.

In recent years the venue’s musical calendar has exploded, picking up the heavy metal and punk rock torch from the old Asbury Lanes. From High on Fire to Chris Jericho’s band Fozzy to FEAR to Murphy’s Law, hard music has found a place at HOI. The venue also has played host to its share of jam bands, reggae outfits, burgeoning hip-hop acts, country artists, and comedians such as Chris Gethard, Colin Quinn and David Cross.

It’s been a crazy journey since their opening weekend with Fishbone, and we’ve been glad to have covered a bunch of shows there. Here’s to many more.
