In many ways, this type of main event long overdue. A Wrestlemania main event where the top women wrestlers in the company are featured. It’s a fitting end to a story that started around Summerslam where Becky Lynch snapped and turned on Charlotte. Becky was finally on a role. Carrying a winning streak into what was supposed to be her “big” moment getting the title after a long period of just being on the roster. Remember, Becky was the first ever Smackdown women’s champion.
Summerslam was supposed to be Becky’s moment and Charlotte supplanted herself in the match. She chose the belt over the friendship first. I mean, this is ultimately Charlotte’s character. She’s the most decorated woman on the entire WWE roster. Charlotte could have let it just be, but ultimately, her desire to be the best trumped everything.
Between these three wrestlers, their stories have been intertwined in many ways. Even throwing Asuka in the mix, briefly. Whether it’s interference in title matches or twitter banter, it was always heading in this direction.A lot of fans frowned at the idea of adding Charlotte to this match, but it fits the story line. She’s the “chosen one.” She was given this spot by Vince McMahon initially to which Becky had to fight her way back. With that, she probably racked up more charges than anybody could count within a two month period.
Becky is the ultimate underdog in this story. Whether it was a bit prolonged with the authority angle, she was always the choice of the fans. There are shades of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s initial run in 98′ and why it did get long in the tooth with Becky’s “leg” injury, we got to where we needed.
With Ronda Rousey, she’s made a quick turn into the cocky persona that she had in MMA. The ‘happy to be here, let’s be friend’s Ronda’ is gone. She has something to prove in her own right. You have the two “wrestlers” going against the outsider saying that Ronda doesn’t belong. Look back to Ronda’s debut interrupting the conclusion of the first women’s Royal Rumble. Now, that definitely fits within the context of the story as well. Ronda is the disruption. Capping off a unreal rookie body of work on top of the card of the biggest show of the year.
So, there we have it and now it’s prediction time. Two champions and a Royal Rumble winner in a winner takes all prize fight. There’s something historic in the air. Becky Lynch is going to conclude her story in becoming the RAW Women’s Champion in pinning Ronda. Becky is tailor made for the RAW brand and it would make the most sense given that Ronda is going to take a hiatus for the time being after Wrestlemania.
Somebody has to take that top spot and she has a fresh slate of contenders ready to step up to The Man. For all the battles that they have had, Charlotte and Becky need to stay away from each other for a bit. Let them be at the top of their own brands. Perhaps down the road we can get another “money” match with the four horsewomen.
