Pride Month Anime Spotlight: No. 6

No. 6 Anime

No. 6 was originally a novel series written by Atsuko Asano that was initially adapted into a manga. The manga was also written by Atsuko Asano, but illustrated by Hinoki Kino, and finally, became an anime series directed by Kenji Nagasaki and written by Seishi Minakami.

A long, long time ago, there was a terrible world ward. Following the war, what was left of humanity divided into six city-states and everything was perfect. At least, it was supposed to be. But this is never truly the case when a class system is involved. Shion is priviledge. He’s an elite resident of city-state No. 6 and has lived a peaceful life, however, this change when a boy comes crashing through his home.

Nezumi was not lucky like Shion. In fact, Nezumi is from a world Shion didn’t even know existed, a wasteland beyond the walls of the isolated, perfect city-state. And despite knowing nothing about him, Shion decided to keep Nezumi safe, which caused him and his mother to lose their elite status and be relocated – where they learned firsthand just have dark things in this world actually are. Years later, Shion finally meets Nezumi again, and together they begin their adventure of uncovering the secrets of the city-states and the world they live in.

Shion and Nezumi’s relationship progresses in the best way. A chance meeting that develops into a strong bond of friendship, that as they travel together, further blooms into a beautiful love. It demonstrates the way that love grows naturally for all of us, no matter our gender or sexual orientation. And they are just such an adorable couple.

No. 6 is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
