Pop Break Live: Highly Suspect and Slothrust at The Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Words & Photos by Kat de Barros
On September 28, 2019 the rock band Highly Suspect accompanied by Slothrust put on a killer show at The Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
With a 16 song setlist, Highly Suspect played their classics (“Lydia,” “My Name is Human”) from their previous albums — The Boy Who Died Wolf and Mister Asylum — as well as their two most recent songs, “16” and “Upperdruggs” off their upcoming album, MCID set to be released on November 1, 2019.
Lead singer Johnny Stevens spoke to the packed crowd about the new records and its meaning…
“Hate is a terrible thing but I have a lot of hate for hateful people. That’s what MCID is about.”
After the epic set, the band also jumped back out (literally) to perform an encore of “16,” “Look Alive, Stay Alive,” and “Wolf” while the Meyer twins (Ryan and Rich) surfed the crowd.
All in all, it was a great show with passionate people on and off stage. If Highly Suspect passes by your city, make sure to stop by their show.
The absolutely excellent soulful Brooklyn-based indie rock outfit Slothrust opened things up for Highly Suspect — something they will be doing on the entire run of this U.S. tour.
