Review: NWA Powerrr Episode 4, ‘Dealer Calls Again’

NWA Powerrr

We start with a video package outlining the decisions and difficulties that former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Tim Storm, has gone through over the past month, losing his “do or die” match challenging Nick Aldis to regain the title, contemplating retirement, and getting both defeated and beaten by The Dawsons in tag competition last week.

Jim Cornette and Joe Galli are at the podium and immediately surprised by a visit from NWA National Champion, “Cowboy” James Storm.  Storm is upset that, as National champ and with his resume, that he has to keep waiting for a shot at the Ten Pounds of Gold. A mention of Colt Cabana brings him out to say that he feels that Cowboy is ducking him in the same fashion!  Eli Drake jumps into the mix and tells Storm not to get distracted by Cabana until he gets his “ticket to the world title” punched first. Aldis comes out and Eli tells him that he has nothing but respect for him but still feels like James Storm is due for a shot at the world title.  Aldis says that he’ll chalk James Storm’s social media comments up to alcohol but Eli Drake doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs so it must have something to do with his vice of wanting to be just like Aldis! (Not often someone gets one up on Eli in promos.)

Aldis offers up the idea of a six-man tag team match where, if his team wins, Colt Cabana gets a shot at the National Title.  Storm accepts on the condition that when his team wins, he gets a shot at the World Title! Aldis accepts those terms but makes a similar “devil’s bargain” to the one he made with Tim Storm weeks ago: If Cowboy’s team wins and he gets a title shot, he has to abdicate the National Title prior to that match. If he’s really a man, he’ll take the offer to fight with everything to lose.  James says that not only is he down, he thinks that a jacked-up 4×4 may have bumped into Nick’s Jaguar in the parking and he’s sorry about the champ’s damn luck.

A short package about the mysteriously silent Kamille is played and fans are encouraged to contact her via social with “#AskKamille” to @KamilleBrick.

NWA’s return to PPV, Into the Fire, is advertised for Saturday, 12/14/2019, and available on Fite TV.

David Marquez is at the podium with Trevor Murdoch.  He’s known Murdoch for years. He’s been up, down, and in the middle but, usually, with a smile on his face.  Trevor says that he’s not happy and he’s frustrated and he thinks getting an NWA contract would go a long way towards fixing that.  He thinks that Jocephus shouldn’t be suspended for last week’s actions but rather should have to face him so he can prove himself to NWA officials.  Jocephus comes out the voice his displeasure over his recent “humiligrations” and says that his spiritual advisor has authorized violence upon “shapeshifters” like Murdoch.”  It’s put up or shut up time for them both.

Trevor Murdoch vs Jocephus

As both men head to the ring, Jocephus sees an opportunity to run Murdoch head first into the ring post to get a head start.  He gets to brawling but it gets turned around with a number of short clotheslines. Jocephus goes into his tights for some powder but Murdoch kicks it right back in his face!  A top rope bulldog and the announcers are coughing out a victory for Trevor Murdoch.

(Side note:  I understand the callback to NWA’s history but a quick Google search result would dictate that references to “Captain Redneck” Dick Murdoch be kept to a minimum.  By all accounts, Trevor is good guy and the less of that he carries, the better.)

Your winner by pinfall… Trevor Murdoch!

A promo video for Thunder Rosa reminds us that she’s coming soon to the NWA ring.

Joe Galli is joined by Aron Stevens. He respectfully avoids direct eye contact as per Stevens’ preferences and reminds the audience to do the same.  As Stevens talks more about his newest film, Tropical Pirates, “Stroke Daddy” Ricky Starks makes his way out, maintaining eye contact throughout.  Aron believes that Ricky is there to offer his services as his stunt double (something the former Damien Mizdow knows a thing or two about.) Ricky offers his hand to kiss and, when Aron questions it, he gets slapped across the studio by Stroke Daddy who says that he talks too much.

A video package is played recounting the appearance of Kingston & Homicide on NWA’s tag scene and their subsequent issue with The Dawsons.  Their No Disqualification match is up next after a word from our sponsors.

A parody commercial for Kayfabe Cocktail, endorsed by “The Universal Heartthrob” Austin Idol, is played. He can’t tell you what’s in the potent aphrodisiac because that wouldn’t be kayfabe.

The Rock n’ Roll Express is headed to NWA country once again (if they ever truly left.)  Some fans might be turned off by the idea of two men in their 60s getting in the ring to perform with guys like Eli Drake and James Storm but the things Ricky Morton is still able to do at his age defies conventional logic.  Having them come in will get the nostalgia factor going and unlikely to lead to disaster… hopefully.

The Dawsons vs Eddie Kingston & Homicide in a No Disqualification Match

The boys from New York start in on The Dawsons prior to the official start. Plenty of biting and choking with the cameras’ cables in this one.  The Wild Cards come out to watch as The Dawsons introduce steel chairs but Homicide and Kingston take advantage of them as well. Kingston gets double suplexed onto a makeshift Eiffel Tower of chairs and Homicide takes some nasty head shots.  Just as they were about to put Homicide away, Isaacs & Latimer lay out both teams and drape Eddie Kingston on top of Zane Dawson for the win. They seemingly just chose their next opponents.

Your winners by pinfall… Eddie Kingston & Homicide

We get asked once again, who is The Question?

Marti Belle is interviewed about the NWA Women’s Championship scene.  She says that Allysin Kay is her best friend but business is business.

Marti Belle vs Ashley Vox

The champion is ringside and addresses both women ahead of the match to wish them both well… despite thinking that neither is ready for a title match.  A well-paced match that got a little crunchy at times sees Ashley Vox get the win with a jackknife pin in front of a fairly impressed Allisyn Kay. Afterwards, Thunder Rosa slides into the ring to offer Marti Belle a handshake but, as the drums kept increasing tempo, Marti steps out and leaves her hanging.

Your winner by pinfall… Ashley Vox

Tony Falk’s Waffles and Tire Irons in Paducah, KY, has a special offer this week only!  Buy 3 gluten-free waffles and get 4 free tire irons!

Aron Stevens vs Ricky Starks

Ricky Starks gets aggressive early on but a punt to the middle rope he’s forced to straddle (to break the hold Stevens has on his trunks) gets Aron some time in control. Some paintbrush slaps wake up “Stroke Daddy” and, after a Sling Blade, he feins a slap. He takes advantage of Stevens’ cringe for an O’Connor Roll and gets the 1-2-3.

Your winner by pinfall… Ricky Starks

Team Aldis vs Team Storm

Aldis has brought in Colt Cabana as he has a stake in the match as well and Colt’s tag team partner, Ken Anderson.  James Storm has made a brilliant play by choosing NWA Tag Team Champions, The Wild Cards for his partners. During a demolition derby finish, Colt Cabana manages to hit a Superman pin on Tom Latimer to control his destiny and earn a National Championship title shot.

Your winners by pinfall… Team Aldis!
