Camden Welles, the New York-based synth-driven alt/pop outfit, dropped their second single ‘Pretty Ugly’ on YouTube, Spotify, and all your favorite streaming platforms.
‘Pretty Ugly’ is, according to the band, “an introspective look at what the world of social media does to ones mental health and how perception on the internet can be vastly different from that of real life.”
While Camden Welles might be new to the scene, the players certainly are not as the group is comprised of former members of Young Rising Sons. This pedigree immediately denotes that this outfit has a strong base in the world of synth-driven alt pop.
However, for being such a new band, Camden Welles has this insanely polished, lived-in quality to their sound, as if they’d be forging these tunes since the gritty New Wave hey days of early 80s London and New York City. There’s this inherent harken to that classic synth sound, which is wildly apparent in ‘Pretty Ugly.’ However, this isn’t a retro act, a throwback for the sake of throwback. There’s a sense of modernity to the sound, especially in the lead vocals where you could hear tinges of Brandon Flowers’ better days as lead singer of The Killers.
If you’re a fan of ‘Pretty Ugly’ you should hunt down (it’s not that hard) their first single, ‘About You’ also available on all your favorite streaming platforms. There’s no word as of yet when and if a full length record will drop in 2020. However, we’re pretty excited for these guys to hit the road, and start gigging around the area.
