Disney Goes All Out For National Streaming Day with new Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+

All day, the respective platforms have been spreading news and sharing special looks of future Disney content. To get fans hyped up, they’ve even been posting trailers and opportunities for fans to interact and comment about the exciting media coming up. Let’s take a look at what Disney revealed today and what premiere dates you should get ready to mark on your calendars!

Disney+ Teases Marvel’s Original Series Loki, Premiering This Summer. Airdate: June 9 

MCU fans, you should definitely be excited for this one! Loki is now premiering June 9, on Wednesdays on Disney+! Tom Hiddleston, who plays The God of Mischief himself, recapped Loki’s history in 30 seconds on the Disney+ social media accounts, following up with a message telling fans to get excited. The series will pick up post-Avengers Endgame with Loki’s story, and it also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sophia Di Martino. We’re officially less than a month away from the six-episode show, which is part of Phase Four in the MCU, so it’s time to get excited for what’s sure to be another exciting Disney+ release that further explores the MCU!

Disney+ Reveals Trailer for The Mysterious Benedict Society. Airdate: June 25

If you loved the Mysterious Benedict Society books as a kid, you’re not alone! Disney+ is bringing the pages to life this summer with a new series based on the novels. We’re about to see the gifted kids solve puzzles and tests, along with helping the person who brought them together, Mr. Benedict, on the small screen! Tony Hale lights up the trailer, playing the twins Mr. Benedict and Mr. Curtain. You can watch the first of all eight episodes starting June 25th!

First Look at Selena Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building. Airdate: August 31

Hulu released new stills, along with the first look at its new series Only Murders in the Building. The series stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, and more! Reportedly, the show, created by John Hoffman and Steve Martin, is a comedy that focuses on three true-crime lovers who work to solve a murder case in their apartment building. Fans seem excited about this exclusive first look, especially since it’s Gomez’s first recurring TV acting role since her Disney days. 

Disney+ Announces Hocus Pocus 2 Release. Airdate: Fall 2022

Get your broomsticks and cauldrons ready, everyone’s favorite witchy trio is back! Although we don’t know the specific date, Fall of 2022 just got spookier. Bette Milder, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are back as the Sanderson Sisters. If you loved the original Hocus Pocus from 1993, then you know that the Halloween classic is loved by millions, which makes this film’s release that much more anticipated. However, one big difference is that Kenny Ortega will not direct. Instead, Adam Shankman, who was set to direct, passed on the torch to friend Anne Fletcher. Fingers crossed it brings back all the fun and spooky magic of the first film. 

ESPN+ Announces New Series Claressa Shields. Airdate: June 3

The platform brings sports fans an all-access look at Claressa Shields’ life and goal of becoming the best two-sport athlete, all within four parts! Shields, who has won the Olympic gold medal twice for boxing and holds many world titles, gets ready to make her MMA debut with the Professional Fighters League against Brittany Elkin. Fans can get an exclusive look at her preparation in the series and see Shields’ road to achieving her goals and preparing for mixed martial arts! 

Season 2 Trailer for Hulu’s Love, Victor Is Released. Airdate: June 11

Love, Victor fans, the day is here. Hulu released the season 2 trailer for the series based on film Love, Simon, centering on Victor Salazar’s (Michael Cimino) challenge of managing his relationship along with his shifting relationships after coming out as gay to his family. It’s clear we’ll see how he deals with everything this holds, along with his friends’ drama and typical teen adventures. This is the first time the series is directly meant for Hulu, as the first season was produced for Disney+ and then moved onto Hulu due to Disney stating that the show had too many mature themes.

Hulu Releases Teaser Trailer for Film False Positive. Airdate: June 25

Horror fans, this one’s for you! If you loved the horror film Rosemary’s Baby, you’ll enjoy the contemporary take on the movie, False Positive. Hulu released the trailer for the long-awaited thriller. Ilana Glazer, Justin Theroux, Pierce Brosnan, Sophia Bush, and more star in this story about a charming doctor who may be hiding something scarier behind his smooth facade. The film, directed by John Lee and produced by A24, will first premiere at Tribeca Film Festival on June 18th, and later come to Hulu on the 25th. 

Disney+ Releases Luca Featurette. Airdate: June 18

Disney and Pixar are back to work magic with the animated film Luca, hitting small screens this summer. The original feature film is a classic coming-of-age tale about a boy in Italy who discovers a whole world of sea monsters during his fun-filled summer. The “Friendship Featurette” Disney+ released today shows an exclusive look at the animated movie as well as a discussion with the actors such as Jacob Tremblay and Maya Rudolph. The film is also directed by Academy Award nominee Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren. 

Special Look at Disney+ Turner & Hooch Series. Airdate: June 16

Do you remember the 1989 film Turner & Hooch starring Tom Hanks? Well, get ready for the reboot starring Josh Peck as the son of Tom Hanks’ character in the original film, Detective Scott Turner. Many fans are currently hoping for Hanks to make an appearance, but it’s uncertain as of right now. Other cast members include Carra Patterson and Brandon Jay McLaren. We’ll have to see how this reboot holds up, but Disney+ got fans excited by releasing a preview video from Hooch’s, the dog’s, perspective, on their social media accounts. 

Other Special Mentions

Disney+ also released a special new poster for the series Monsters at Work, which is based on the beloved Monsters, Inc. films. The series airs on July 2nd! Hulu also mentioned that season 2 of FXX’s comedy series Dave is on its way, premiering first on FXX, and the next day on FX on Hulu. The next season is out on June 16.
