Seaside Heights is often associated with the eponymous MTV show that has graced/clogged (depending on your point of view) our airwaves since 2009. Well, before GTL became a thing, Jersey residents would associate the famed shore town with post-prom parties, fried Oreos, big thrill rides, fist pumping night clubs and a boardwalk full of beers, bright lights and games of chance.
Yet one of the most underrated parts of Seaside Heights is the beachfront. It’s a wonderful spot not just to hang out and catch some waves — it’s an excellent spot for live music. Those of us who can remember Mumford & Son’s Gentlemen of the Road Takeover in 2015 know that this beach is perfect for a big-time show.
So it fits that the town’s Seaside Heights Live! concert series has become a staple of the summer. However, this year instead of just cover bands and tribute acts, big-time national touring acts are hitting the stage. moe., the iconic jam band, brought their revered sound to Seaside on Sunday July 10.
The band ripped through two sets that included their seminal classics as well as a cover of Traffic’s “Light Up or Leave Me Alone.”
Opening things up was New York City-based bassist Karina Rykman — the bassist for Marco Benevento — who recently jammed solo at the vaunted Peach Festival.
