Review: Cobra Commander #3 (Image Comics)

If you thought Cobra Commander couldn’t get any more twisted, you thought wrong. But if you were anticipating buckets of blood being spilled, then you’re spot on!

Cobra Commander #3 kicks off as Cobra Commander fights off mutated alligators in the ‘Glades, a familiar face, Zarana holds court in discussing with the Dreadnok family plans of how to move forward with “The Juice.”

On visual, fans will recognize the pink fluid-filled cube as Energon. But before this rowdy bunch of mercs can discuss further, Zandar, interrupts with a hostage in tow, Cobra Commander himself!

As Zarana tells the group to go about their plans for her brother off on an infiltration mission, we can figure out who she is referring to. While we don’t see him at all this issue, one can assume Zartan is not too far away.

The next few pages show panel, after panel, after panel of each member taking a violent turn in displaying their own interrogation tactics in trying to figure out who the Snake is, and why he is snooping around their territory.

It’s amazing to see in just a few pages so much character from each member, and in turn, another group of pages in how Cobra Commander manages to easily use the power of verbal manipulation to turn each one on another in order to sow chaos and dysfunction.

This is cut short as he decides to turn on his homing beacon to likely call for his “Protector.” Curious as to why now and not earlier, but I have no doubt you creative reader will be able to deduce just why.

As the Protector approaches with menace and purpose, the Dreadnoks foolishly attack him. Not just due to his sheer brute strength, but the reveal of who he really is. The pretender is revealed as the Nemesis Enforcer of Golobulus. The enforcer one by one, takes own all members, leaving us with a final panel, of Cobra Commander’s mask, defaced Joker-style watching with screams in the background.

Horrifyingly delicious. Next issue please!

Cobra Commander #3 is now available at your local comic book store.
