AEW Dynamite 7/10/24 Review: Why, Mariah Why?

Another week removed from Forbidden Door 3 and the transition to building towards All In is in full effect. With just four wrestling matches announced and a few promo segments, a lot was riding on AEW delivering another solid episode in the form of AEW Dynamite 7/10/24.

Delivered they did.

Oh, tribalists? Piss off.

Dynamites begins with Will Ospreay cutting a scather of a promo on MJF and his diabolical actions from last week, taking out Daniel Garcia. Ospreay demands MJF confront him face-to-face. Instead, MJF does so from the comfort from the big screen, challenging Ospreay, next week for the AEW International Championship.

Bryan Danielson defeated “Hangman” Adam Page to win the Owen Hart Memorial Tournament

What a match. Fantastic. Page as the angry, vengeful cowboy is the version we’ve been waiting for. This version is vile, heinous, and wrestles with no remorse. Facial expressions are key, both Page and Danielson succeed in showing their frustration and anger, while the other expressed pain, agony, but the will to continue. Danielson wound up bloody. Very difficult to predict the winner, although at times it did seem Hangman would get his wish to face off with Swerve once and for all. However, after a ref bump, it seemed as though Page would find a way to steal the win, until Jeff Jarrett interfered. Of course with Double J one never knows where his allegiances lie, but he called it right down the middle and made the count as Danielson rolled up Page for the win.

Hangman is now uber-angry. After taking a turnbuckle German on his head, I’d be angry too.

Nigel McGuiness was a monster on commentary. I swear one day we will get Danielson vs. McGuiness before he retires.

Bryan Danielson will now challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at All In.

Swerve comes out for his promo, first cutting one on Danielson. Respecting him while making a statement regarding the outcome of their upcoming match. He then turns his attention toward The Elite. He talks Blood and Guts taking place in two weeks, and says he will be part of it, but as part of Team AEW.

A music video courtesy of The Acclaimed was shown, very much trashing The Elite.

Chris Jericho defeated Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight

Joe had dominated most of the match until Bryan Keith and Big Bill interfered. This led to Joe being put onto a forklift while a crazy Jericho drove it through drywall. The ref called the match on account of Joe being unconscious.

Joe destroying Jericho is entertaining, because Jericho puts on this hole “woe is me” performance.

I hate to say it, but Jericho’s gimmick is over in Calgary. Wonder if it will continue to get over back in the US.

PAC defeated Kyle Fletcher, Claudio Castagnoli, and Tomohiro Ishii

Presumably, this will lead to a title match at All In. Fun match, which I am certain impulsive basement keyboard warriors will trash, but if the same match aired on one of the three brands of another company it would be just perfectly fine. I love watching Ishii. I can’t explain it at all. He’s on TV, and therefore I must watch. Fletcher is damn awesome. He’s Ospreay Jr. while Claudio is workhorse to perfection. Each one brought strong elements of their owns styles to make this enjoyable. PAC missed All In last year, so this looks to make up for it.

Mercedes Mone celebration segment

It seems each week is going to be another brag-fest to continue her path of egomania. This week, she was sure to end any cheers by using and mis-speaking Bret Hart’s famous catchphrase, and then praised her new best friends, The Elite. The gloating was interrupted by Dr. Britt Baker, DMD.

That match should be very good at the PPV.

Backstage: Hangman confronts the Elite, has a little staredown with Okada, but lets them know, he’s doing it, referring to joining them for Blood and Guts.

Mariah May defeated Willow Nightingale to win the Women’s Owen Hart Memorial Tournament.

Great main event showing. Both wore wrestling gear in tribute to Owen. There was Mariah in a pink-and-black jet, and Willow wearing Owen’s black and yellow “caution” gear. Willow is just so damn good. But let us go right to heart, or broken heart I should say, as soon as Mariah is handed the Championship Belt, she, without hesitation turns and clocks Toni Storm with it. She then knocks Luther off the stage and through tables. She bloodies Storm and continues a merciless attack, even shoving referee Aubrey Edwards down.

The heel turn months in the making has finally happened. Mariah got what she wanted, a title match. Mariah May vs. Toni Storm is going to be ridiculous.

I enjoyed Dynamite tonight, felt everything had a solid flow and enjoyable wrestling.

What say you!?

AEW Dynamite 7/10/24 is now streaming on the TBS app.
