Socially Distanced #227: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Instant Reaction + Remembering James Earl Jones

The Socially Distanced Podcast was created by two pop culture-obsessed dads during COVID who decided to take their Facebook messenger conversations and turn them into a podcast. In 2022 they brought their friend, a pop culture-obsessed mom to the show, and things got even better!

Join hosts Amanda Rivas and Bill Bodkin as they discuss everything in the world movies, music, sports, television and pop culture — everything keeping them sane in this time of socially distancing. This podcast is powered by ThePopBreak.com.

We’re not going to say his name three times but Socially Distanced will be talking about the #1 movie in America — Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Bill Bodkin and Amanda Rivas are joined by Kriss Nunez of the BCP+ (making his Socially Distanced debut) and Jeff Grettler of the Dos Incredibles Podcast to discuss the long-awaited sequel to Beetlejuice.

In the episode they discuss their history with the film — how it frightened Amanda, Bill and Kriss and how Jeff say it five times in theaters. They talk about their love for Tim Burton films like Big Fish, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow. They then dive head first into the film and what they loved about it (everything from Catherine O’Hara to the beloved Bob), and what notes they have for it — in particular the overstuffed plot. They also discuss Michael Keaton’s immaculate performance and if they want to see a third film in the series.

In the pre-game segment they discuss the passing of James Earl Jones earlier this week. They discuss his iconic voice roles of Darth Vader and Mufasa, his EGOT status and movies we loved him in like The Sandlot, Conan the Barbarian, Sneakers and more.
