TV Break October 2024 – Agatha All Along, The Penguin, English Teacher & Netflix’s Latest Data Dump

Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.

Here’s the format of the show:

The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, & Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including HBO’s The Penguin, Disney Plus’s Agatha All Along, Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, and Netflix’s Miss Night & Day

News Break – Alex, Bill, and Josh parse through all the lessons they learned by sorting through Netflix’s latest data dump of consumer viewing on the platform over the first six months of 2024.

Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, & Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. All three gave the nod to Hulu this month thanks to their successful run at this year’s Emmy Awards and their exciting fall tv line up, including English Teacher, Only Murders in the Building, and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

New Series Spotlight – This month, they are reviewing English Teacher. The series was created by Bryan Jordan Alvarez, who you may know from his popular YouTube videos or his supporting turn on the Will & Grace reboot a few years back. Here, he plays Evan Marquez, a queer, neurotic, and ever-aggrieved English teacher at a high school outside Austin, Texas. The series also stars Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher. Five of the eight episodes of season one have already aired on FX. You can also stream the series on Hulu or, if you have the Disney bundle you can also watch it directly on Disney Plus.
