The final week of Love Island USA Season 8 has proven that the biggest challenges don’t always come from bombshells or re-couplings. Instead, the final stretch has been about trust, outside opinions, and whether these couples are actually ready to leave the villa together. As the finale gets closer, the relationships are being tested in a much different way than they were at the beginning of the season.
The biggest turning point this week came after America’s compatibility vote. While Aniya and Carl, Trinity and Bryce, Melanie and Sincere, and Titi and KC were voted among the most compatible couples, Kayda and Zach were left off the list. That decision quickly became one of the biggest storylines of the week.
What stood out wasn’t that they weren’t voted into the top group. It was how much the vote seemed to affect their relationship. Kayda spent a lot of time looking for reassurance from Zach and the other girls, almost like she needed everyone else to agree that their relationship was strong. Instead of making viewers more confident in the couple, those conversations made it seem like they were questioning their own relationship.

That became even more clear when both couples reached new milestones in Episode 31. KC asking Titi to be his girlfriend felt natural because viewers have watched their relationship grow over the course of the season. The moment didn’t feel forced. It showed why so many people see them as one of the strongest couples left in the villa.
Kayda and Zach becoming exclusive felt different. Coming right after America’s vote, it almost felt like they were trying to prove something instead of simply taking the next step because they were ready. The confusion from the other Islanders didn’t help either. Everyone seemed to have a different idea of what being “exclusive” actually meant. Trinity was honest when she told Kayda that their relationship still felt more like a situationship, and it was clear that comment hit a nerve.
What made that conversation even more interesting was that Trinity wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Aniya, Trinity, and Melanie all admitted they had similar thoughts about Kayda and Zach’s relationship. That doesn’t mean they’re right, but it does raise a fair question going into the finale. Are Kayda and Zach just taking things slow, or are they avoiding fully committing?
Family Day once again showed why it’s one of the best episodes every season. After weeks away from home, the Islanders finally got to see their families, and those conversations gave everyone a reality check.

Aniya and Carl’s family meeting was one of my favorites. It wasn’t full of drama, but it felt honest. I especially liked that Aniya’s mom encouraged her to be there for the other girls, especially Melanie. It showed that she wasn’t just thinking about her daughter’s relationship but also how she was treating the people around her.
The family meeting everyone was waiting for, though, was Melanie and Sincere’s. One of the biggest surprises was that Sincere’s family didn’t defend everything he had done. Instead, they called him out and told him he needed to do better. It was refreshing to see them hold him accountable. Melanie’s family also stayed true to how they’ve felt all season. They made it clear they didn’t support the relationship and wanted her to move on. Even after hearing both families’ opinions, Melanie still chose Sincere. Whether that relationship lasts outside the villa is still a huge question, but it’s been one of the most talked-about storylines all season.
With the final four couples now set, the ending feels pretty expected. Each couple has taken a different path to get here, and that’s what has made this season fun to watch. Some relationships have looked steady from the beginning, while others have been full of ups and downs.
