“I’ve got better things to do tonight then die.”
Talk about chills. This line uttered by a heroic Autobot, fits so well with today’s modern aesthetic of movie trailers. Dynamic and colorful action, gripping catchphrases and one-liners. In case you haven’t heard by now, Hasbro’s Transformers Apology Tour has been in full effect for the past few months, revealing toys, games, and other merchandise in commemoration of shattering and traumatizing childhoods from 1986.
At San Diego comic-con, a brand new trailer played in honor of the 40th anniversary of Transformers the Movie. Re-mastered in 4K, in all its classic animated brightly colored action, will be in theaters for one weekend only from September 17th through the 21st.
The trailer gets a modern makeover with new sound effects, a remix of effects of sorts, all culminating in what was supposed to be the final battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron. The real treat was the reveal of an added bonus scene following the final credits. This is met with anxious anticipation. Will this lead into the episode where the Quintessons take their revenge? Does this branch into an alternate timeline?
While I am a purist at heart, something about this modern remastering of the trailer gave me goosebumps. It looks absolutely fantastic, proves once again that nothing beats the original.
